At Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), the event titled ‘The Story of the Sky from Past to Future’, organized in collaboration with ÜNİDES and MAKÜ Philosophy Community, was held with great interest from students and academics curious about the sky. The conference, held on April 17, 2025, at the Veterinary Faculty Conference Hall, brought together scientific and philosophical perspectives with presentations that lasted all day.
At the conference, Prof. Dr. Zeynel Tunca, retired faculty member of Ege University Department of Astronomy and Space Sciences, explained the structure of the universe and the impact of sky observations throughout human history on scientific developments.
Prof. Dr. Yavuz Unat gave a comprehensive presentation on the history of astronomy from ancient times to the present.
Astrophotographer, amateur astronomer Uğur İkizler provided suggestions on how to increase public interest in astronomy and emphasized the importance of observation festivals.
Prof. Dr. Dursun Koçer, faculty member of Istanbul Kültür University Department of Physics, focused on the philosophical dimension of the universe, drawing attention with the words “Looking at the sky is the oldest form of thinking.”
Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar attended the Sun Observation Festival
The event continued with the Sun Observation Festival held between 13:00–14:00. Participants had the opportunity to examine the Sun in detail through specially filtered telescopes. Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar and his team also came to the festival area to observe the Sun.
In the evening, the Night Observation held at MAKÜ Amphitheater brought together a sky full of stars and planets with curious eyes.
The program was implemented within the scope of the ÜNİDES – University Student Communities Cooperation and Support Program supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
