MAKÜ Fulfilled Aunt Rabia's Dream: Her First Cinema Experience Was Unforgettable

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Center for Aging Studies Application and Research (YAŞAM) in collaboration with Burdur Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services continues the 'MAKÜ YAŞAM Realizes Dreams' project with meaningful events. As part of the project, a special cinema screening was organized this week for Aunt Rabia, who never had the opportunity to go to the cinema in her life.

Aunt Rabia and the residents of Burdur Hilmi Hafize Evin Nursing Home were hosted at the MAKÜ Avşarhan Cinema Hall. During the event, participants experienced a nostalgic atmosphere and had the opportunity to meet the magical world of cinema.

Speaking at the event, YAŞAM Center Deputy Director Lecturer Gülnihal Altun stated that the center organized 30 different workshop activities in the nursing home over the past year. Altun, who said that they got to know the dreams of elderly individuals more closely in these activities, expressed that these ideas inspired the "MAKÜ YAŞAM Realizes Dreams" project.

“Last week, we realized Aunt Emine's dream. This week, we ensured Aunt Rabia met the cinema she had never been to,” said Altun, thanking the university administration and volunteers who supported the project. She also emphasized that the declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of the Family' by the Presidency made the project even more meaningful.

Participants in the event shared in Aunt Rabia's joy, and the happiness created by this small but meaningful gesture was reflected on faces.
