Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), 2025-2026 Academic Year Opening started with an enthusiastic ceremony. The opening program was attended by Burdur Governor Tülay Baydar Bilgihan, Burdur Members of Parliament Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz and Mustafa Oğuz, protocol members, university administration, academic and administrative staff, and a large number of students.

The ceremony began with our Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar laying a wreath at the Atatürk Monument. After a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Rector Dalgar took the podium to share both the excitement of the new academic year and the point the university has reached.

“MAKÜ is growing with strong academic production and social contribution”

Expressing that MAKÜ, with approximately 36,500 students, consists of 3,000 graduate students and 1,500 international students, Dalgar said, “In the last two years, our number of international students has increased by 50%. Our goal is to make at least 10% of our student community international students, thus giving our university a more universal structure”.

Emphasizing that the university is a large family with 1,186 academic and 891 administrative staff, Rector Dalgar stated that MAKÜ provides strategic contributions to the country's development with its specialization in the field of livestock, being the only one in Turkey with a domestic embryo production license, patented projects, and university-industry collaborations.

University rising in international rankings

Reminding MAKÜ's international achievements, Rector Dalgar said, “With the Green Campus Gold Label Certificate and Sports Friendly Campus Award, we have demonstrated a vision sensitive to the environment and sports. By entering the top 500 in the Times Higher Education rankings, we have taken our place among the world's most prestigious universities. Our university, which received 5 years of full institutional accreditation from YÖKAK, has certified its quality assurance”.

Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar also emphasized that thanks to digitalization and artificial intelligence-based education applications, 19 newly opened departments, and innovative studies in agriculture and livestock technologies, MAKÜ students are equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the age.

Following this, Burdur Governor Tülay Baydar Bilgihan stated that MAKÜ is one of the most important values of the city, saying, “Since its establishment, our university has made very important contributions not only to Burdur but also to its region and country. It is a source of pride for all of us that it has reached a point where it competes with many universities today”.

Governor Bilgihan expressed that MAKÜ stands out especially with livestock, agriculture, history, and cultural research, and said that the recently established Faculty of Medicine will make great contributions to both academia and health services.

The program ended with a cocktail where participants chatted.
