Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), as a university proudly bearing the name of our National Poet, contributed to the preparation works of the 12 March Acceptance of the National Anthem and Commemoration Day of Mehmet Akif Ersoy conducted on a national scale.

MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar and Secretary General Ümit Yavuz attended the Central Executive Board meeting held under the coordination of the Ministry of National Education and chaired by Deputy Minister of National Education Ömer Faruk Yelkenci. The scope of the events to be held throughout the year, inter-institutional cooperation models, and the educational vision for young people were discussed at the meeting.

After the evaluations made at the meeting, the board members visited Taceddin Mosque and Dervish Lodge, where Mehmet Akif Ersoy penned the National Anthem. Following this, Deputy Minister Yelkenci made statements at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Culture House, emphasizing that extensive efforts are carried out every year to convey the spirit of the National Anthem to students, for children to internalize this consciousness, and to pass this heritage on to future generations.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Yelkenci stated that many activities are planned, from student symposiums to competitions, reenactments on the National Struggle route, and music and theater events, expressing that these efforts will also support the curriculum.

Rector Dalgar: “Bringing Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s legacy together with young people is both an individual and  institutional responsibility.”

In his evaluation after the meeting, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar emphasized that MAKÜ sees it as an institutional responsibility to bring together the legacy of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, whose name, ideas, world of values, and civilization vision it carries, with young people:

“Mehmet Akif Ersoy is the symbol of our nation's will to rise in difficult times, moral conception, and consciousness of independence. As a university bearing his name, it is our primary duty to embed Akif’s world of ideas into the thinking style, values education, and cultural memory of the youth.

These efforts carried out in harmony with our Ministry of National Education are of great importance in transforming MAKÜ’s academic capacity, cultural accumulation, and social responsibility approach into a national-scale cooperation model.

I thank all the institutions that contributed to this process; as MAKÜ, I once again express our determination to strengthen the spirit of youth by nourishing it with the values represented by Akif.” he said.
