Double awards for MAKÜ at the Barrier-Free University Awards 2025

Organized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), within the scope of the Barrier-Free University Awards 2025, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) achieved significant success with its efforts in accessibility. The university's various units were deemed worthy of the award thanks to their practices prioritizing accessibility in educational and socio-cultural activities.
Blue Flag award to İstiklal Campus
In this context, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University İstiklal Campus was among the university units awarded in the 2025 “Accessibility in Socio-Cultural Activities” category.
MAKÜ İstiklal Campus achieved significant success by being among the university units awarded the Blue Flag in the “Accessibility in Socio-Cultural Activities” category with its efforts centered on social inclusivity and equal opportunity. The practices aiming for the events held within the campus to be accessible to all individuals stood out with disability-friendly space arrangements, inclusive event planning to increase participation, and awareness-focused efforts.
Ağlasun Vocational School also awarded with Blue Flag
Another award in the 2025 “Accessibility in Socio-Cultural Activities” field went to Ağlasun Vocational School. Ağlasun Vocational School was also honored with the Blue Flag Award in this field. This award demonstrated that practices facilitating the access of disabled individuals to social, cultural, and sports activities were successfully implemented.
Green Flag Award went to the Faculty of Education
On the other hand, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Education also qualified for the Green Flag Award in the 2025 “Accessibility in Education” category. The Faculty of Education was deemed worthy of the Green Flag Award with its physical arrangements supporting the equal and effective participation of disabled individuals in educational processes, digital accessibility practices, and inclusive education approach.
These awards obtained became a concrete indicator of the efforts carried out by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in line with its “barrier-free university” vision. It is aimed to continue and increase the accessibility-focused practices carried out in cooperation with the university administration and academic-administrative units in the coming years.
Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar emphasized MAKÜ's significant role in barrier-free education, saying, “We attach great importance to the awards organized to ensure equal opportunity in education and to remove barriers in entering higher education and during the education process. In this context, we continue our efforts, and these awards, which are the result of our efforts, made us happy. I thank all my colleagues who contributed.”
