Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), offers students who want to receive education in the field of sports sciences the opportunity to receive sports education in Turkey's best facilities.

With the support and patronage of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the MAKÜ Athlete Training and Camp Center project, which was completed and put into operation, the Faculty of Sports Sciences, located within it, trains champion athletes and qualified coaches in many branches.

Providing information about the MAKÜ Faculty of Sports Sciences and Sports Facilities, Dean of the Faculty Prof. Dr. Emrah Atay started his speech by introducing the faculty; “Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Sports Sciences is a faculty whose foundations were laid by establishing the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching under the Faculty of Education in 1993. Our Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching later became a college. Since 2019, it has been serving as the Faculty of Sports Sciences. We have three departments affiliated with our faculty. These are the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, the Department of Coaching Education, and the Department of Sports Management. Our Department of Sports Management accepts students through the central placement exam. Our other two departments accept students through a special talent exam. Approximately one thousand students continue their education in our faculty.” he said.

Our Facilities Are At A Level To Be Exemplified In Turkey

Providing information about the facilities, Dean Atay said; “The biggest advantage of our faculty is in terms of facilities. Our facilities are at a level to be exemplified in Turkey. Especially our facilities in the field of football are among the best facilities in Turkey. Our Faculty of Sports Sciences is located under the 14,400-seat İstiklal Stadium. It is a facility with 13 training halls and large sports halls. Our administrative offices and classrooms are completely under this stadium. The stadium is also a structure that sets an example in Turkey in terms of design.” he said.

Students Graduate Ready For The Sector

Stating that students do not have difficulty working in the sector after graduation and that there are many certificate programs in addition to practice-oriented courses, Atay said; “As a faculty, we pay attention to this when graduating our students; We want to graduate them ready for the sector. Therefore, in addition to practice-oriented academic courses, we support their education with various certificate programs and study groups. In other words, a student who graduates from here can specialize in other extras in the field of sports in addition to the coaching certificate and can find a job more easily in the sector and will graduate qualified. What are these? They learn competition analysis here, reinforce it with a certificate program, and participate in training with the teams coming to the Athlete Training and Camp Center by joining study groups, making their education more qualified. In addition, we have a performance analysis laboratory. We have a performance analysis certificate program. We have a psychophysiology certificate program. Again, these are extra trainings that will contribute to our students' education in addition to their academic courses.

Opportunity To Watch The Training Of Professional Teams And Athletes In Sports Facilities

One of the biggest advantages of our Faculty of Sports Sciences is its integration with the Athlete Training and Camp Center. What does this mean? As Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, we have the mission to host many famous teams or big teams at the Athlete Training and Camp Center. This year we hosted Başakşehir and Antalyaspor. We have hosted many national teams here before. This has the advantage that our students contribute to their learning processes by watching the training of the teams that come, consulting with their coaches.
