In this context, expert career counselors will provide services through the preference counseling line between 09:00-18:00 until August 8, 2023.
MAKÜ Career
Center, Rektör Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, who visited the Consultation Center established at the Career Center, said; “This year, for the first time, our university has opened a software system that includes psychometric tests such as “personality, vocational interest, and job values inventories” to help candidates determine which professions they are suitable for, which we have been applying to our own students for a long time, to all prospective students across Turkey. Students who enter the system examine universities to make university preferences and check whether their scores are sufficient by looking at the base scores of the previous year to see which departments they can prefer. Through the system we have made available, prospective students will be able to realize which career fields and professions they are suitable for in terms of their individual characteristics. As a university, we have been working on this system for 4-5 years. Individuals over the age of 16 can fill out the inventories and get an idea of what characteristics they have and which professions they may be more inclined to within the framework of these characteristics. On the other hand, candidates who fill out the inventories can receive career counseling services from our experts at the Career Center through the consultation line we have created. They analyze their reports together. They evaluate which professions they are more suitable and inclined for. In addition, by looking at the base scores of the relevant departments of our university and all universities across Turkey, they provide support on which departments their scores are suitable for. As you know, in university preferences, candidates usually compare the base scores of the previous year with the scores they received this year. However, professional support is often not received at the point of career or department preference. Preferences are made based on the preferences of the family, the guidance of the environment, and perhaps the suggestions of their teachers in the high schools they attended. We have taken it a step further by opening a system that reports which professions the candidate can be more successful in or more inclined to with scientific tests to all prospective students across Turkey for the first time this year. Thus, as a university, we have offered a service that actively supports prospective students beyond preference counseling. I think this system will make it easier for prospective students to make decisions. Because we all have some distinct characteristics that we are born with and acquire in our social life. These characteristics can be compatible or incompatible with the requirements of some professions. In this context, we have offered a kind of decision support mechanism to help prospective students choose the right profession and embark on a journey where they will be more successful and happy while doing that profession. Of course, it should also be noted here that it would not be correct to make an assertive statement that the professions suggested by the system to prospective students are absolutely correct and that decisions should be made based on this one hundred percent. Candidates will already make this evaluation themselves in line with the current conditions, the country's professional fields, and employment opportunities. Here, we are providing scientific support. This has been made available free of charge to all candidates across Turkey by our university. I recommend all our candidates to benefit from this system. It gives serious ideas and makes decision-making easier. It is a very important service. I think it will make a significant contribution. As soon as we opened this system, the phones started ringing. They are calling from different cities such as İzmir, Aydın, and Antalya, asking for support. Our center will continue to provide support throughout the preference period, including weekends. I wish all candidates success. I also recommend that they definitely examine the relevant departments of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and consider our university in their preferences. I hope all candidates achieve the results they desire.” he said.
Prospective students can benefit from the preference counseling service and evaluation tools free of charge.
