Dr. Lecturer Berkehan Aykanat from Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Dentistry drew attention to dental traumas in children, stating that the first 60 minutes are of vital importance.
Dr. Lecturer Berkehan Aykanat from Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Dentistry made important warnings about dental traumas frequently encountered in young children with the opening of schools. Aykanat stated that tooth fractures and teeth that come out from the root due to accidents and falls require urgent treatment, emphasizing that the first 60 minutes in such cases are considered "golden hours".
Reaching a Doctor in the Golden Hours is of Great Importance
Emphasizing the importance of reaching a doctor during the golden hours, Dr. Aykanat said; “Dental traumas are generally more common in school-aged children, and teachers and parents need to act consciously in the face of such accidents. If the child's milk tooth has fallen or broken, finding the tooth or its fragments and delivering them to a dentist as soon as possible is of great importance for the child's dental health in later years.”
Aykanat pointed out that the fallen or broken tooth should be preserved in a container filled with milk or, if milk is not available, in clean water without touching the root and delivered to the doctor, stating that this process is of great importance for the child's dental health. He emphasized that, in addition to the time of application to the dentist, the proper transportation of the damaged tooth also increases the success of the treatment.
Aykanat highlighted the importance of early intervention in such dental traumas, especially with the start of sports that may cause trauma and the school period, stating that families and teachers should act consciously and be careful against accidents.
