The Inter-University Taekwondo Turkey Championship, organized under the hosting of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, was held in Burdur with wide participation from across Turkey. In addition to 515 athletes from 91 universities, approximately 100 coaches and managers took part in the organization.
In the championship held on April 19-21, 2026, at the MAKÜ campus, athletes competed in the Kyorugi and Poomsae categories. The organization, which was the scene of colorful images, once again demonstrated the unifying power of sports by bringing together athletes from different universities.
A large number of athletes and sports enthusiasts, especially MAKÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner and the Secretary General of the Turkish University Sports Federation Dr. Mehmet Yönal, attended the opening ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony, Yönal expressed their satisfaction with the organization being held again at MAKÜ and thanked the university administration. Yönal, drawing attention to taekwondo as a martial art, wished for the competitions to be completed without injuries and in friendship.
Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner, in his speech, emphasized the unifying aspect of sports, recalled the university's achievements in the field of sports, and expressed their satisfaction in hosting the organization.
Double success from MAKÜ athletes
Among the 7 athletes representing MAKÜ in the championship, 2 bronze medals were won. Mustafa Kıvanç Aksoy won a bronze medal in the Men's Individual Poomsae category, while the duo of Mustafa Kıvanç Aksoy and Ceren Gül Gögçin also achieved third place in the Pair Team Poomsae category.
Fierce competition in team and individual categories
On the first day of the championship, many universities achieved rankings in the Poomsae team and individual categories. In the women's synchronized team, Eskişehir Anadolu University came first, while Gazi University took second place. In the men's synchronized team, Balıkesir University was at the top.
In the individual categories, Erciyes University achieved first place in women, and Gazi University in men. In the pair category, Eskişehir Anadolu University won the gold medal.
In the Kyorugi competitions held on the second day, Gazi University came first in the men's category, while Istanbul Nişantaşı University took second place. In the overall Poomsae classification, Balıkesir University became the champion in men, and Eskişehir Anadolu University in women.
In the Kyorugi competitions held on the third day, Gazi University came first in the women's category, while Ondokuz Mayıs University took second place.
The Inter-University Taekwondo Turkey Championship attracted attention with its high participation and competition level, and the performance of the athletes received full marks from the spectators.
