Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) has given its first graduates within the scope of Micro Competency Programs. During the ceremony held in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Conference Hall, approximately 800 students received their graduation certificates, and thank-you certificates were presented to the program coordinators. Speaking at the ceremony, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar emphasized that micro competencies are an important part of the university model of the future.
Rector Dalgar stated that universities are no longer just institutions that transfer knowledge, but they need to become structures that equip and differentiate students according to the needs of the era. Expressing that MAKÜ operates with this understanding, Rector Dalgar noted that they have developed over ninety micro competency programs in a short time and have received intense interest from students.
Prof. Dr. Dalgar expressed that universities need to operate with an innovative and pioneering understanding, stating that they are also pioneers in applied education in Turkey.
Rector Dalgar, who conveyed that they train students within the sector with the “plus one” and “plus two” models, stated that they have graduated thousands of students to date and that their employment rates are strong. He indicated that micro competency programs are a continuation of this vision.
In his speech, Rector Dalgar also touched on the changing understanding of education, stating that access to information has become much easier in the digital age, and therefore universities need to provide students not only with theoretical knowledge but also with skills, flexibility, and versatility. Rector Dalgar urged students not to let their diplomas limit them, emphasizing that competencies gained in different fields will provide significant advantages in terms of career.
Rector Dalgar also explained that micro competency certificates will be verifiable through a digital blockchain infrastructure, thus strengthening the international validity of the certificates.
Prof. Dr. Dalgar, who also gave advice to students regarding the use of artificial intelligence, highlighted the importance of using technology correctly, saying, “Use artificial intelligence but do not rent out your mind. Do not stop questioning and thinking critically.”
Rector Dalgar thanked the academics, coordinators, and industry representatives who contributed to the preparation of the program, stating that the students who are the first graduates of the micro competency programs are the pioneering representatives of the education model of the future.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of certificates and a group photo session.
