In the Science Cafe meetings, light and nanotechnology were discussed

As part of the Science Cafe meetings conducted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Science Communication Coordination, a talk titled “Light and Nanotechnology in Sustainable Development” was held on May 20, 2026. During the event, the effects of science on daily life and environmental sustainability were shared with the participants.

 

Prof. Dr. Yaşar Gök, a faculty member of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, who was a speaker at the talk, emphasized the importance of May 16 International Day of Light and explained the role of light technologies in scientific developments. The presentation particularly addressed the extraordinary interactions that occur in nano-scale materials through the combination of light and nanotechnology.

 

Within the program, Prof. Dr. Gök focused on the photocatalysis method and explained the contributions this technology offers in terms of sustainable development goals with examples. Prof. Dr. Gök stated that photocatalysis provides environmentally friendly solutions, especially in water purification processes, and also enables the acquisition of valuable chemicals through more economical and nature-sensitive methods.

 

The event, which attracted great interest from the participants, concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and a commemorative photo session after the question-and-answer section.
