Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Mehmet Akif Ersoy Application and Research Center has published the transcription of our National Anthem poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy's book Safahât along with its facsimile edition.

Under the leadership of Center Director Prof. Dr. Zafer Gölen, it was transcribed by Faculty of Arts and Sciences History Department faculty members Prof. Dr. Hasan Babacan, Prof. Dr.  Abidin Temizer, and Dr. Lecturer Senem Karagöz. The page, cover, and binding designs of the book were done by MAKÜ Faculty of Art and Design faculty members Assoc. Prof. Murat Kara and Dr. Lecturer Yasemin Kayabaşı.

This special edition, which includes both the transcription and the facsimile of the original copy, was presented to readers in its original size without any changes.

The work, published by the MAKÜ publishing house, holds the distinction of being the first book of the university publishing house.

The project leader Prof. Dr. Zafer Gölen stated that the book was prepared by staying true to the original. "Safahât is one of the most published works in Turkish literature. We prepared this special edition by preserving the original text, despite changes in the language, without even touching a comma" he said.

Additionally, attention was drawn to the difficulties of carrying and using various sized editions of Safahât, emphasizing that this edition adhered to the original dimensions of the work. Gölen stated that with the project, MAKÜ has made a significant contribution to Turkish culture.

Our university publishing house also plans to publish the transcribed version as an e-book for those who cannot access the physical copy of the book. The prepared Safahât will be presented to readers both physically and digitally.

The First Edition Was Gifted to Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş

The first publication of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University's publishing house, the first work printed in Ottoman Turkish and Turkish, Safahât, was gifted to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, at the 5th International Mehmet Akif Ersoy Science and Art Awards Ceremony held on November 12, 2024.
