In the rapidly changing and uncertain world of the 21st century, classical education models are no longer sufficient on their own. The business world now seeks not only diplomas but also individuals who can think flexibly, possess versatile skills, and are open to learning. Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) has become one of the universities that recognized this transformation early and took innovative steps. Offering many competencies outside the curriculum, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University aims to increase its appeal even more in the coming years.
The Unit Micro Competency Programs (BMYP) implemented at our university are one of the most concrete indicators of this vision. As of today, 53 different micro competency programs are offered to students. More than 1500 students applied to the programs, but due to limited quotas, nearly 1200 students were accepted.
Education enriched with industry integration and academia
The most striking feature of the BMYPs is that at least 30% of the training is provided directly by industry representatives. Students come together not only with academic experts but also with experienced names from the business world. In the remaining class hours, numerous academicians from different faculties contribute to the development of students. The training is largely aimed at skill acquisition. Structures with practical and workshop content were designed. Thus, MAKÜ students gain real sector experience even before graduating.
Competencies certified with digital badges
Each micro competency program is designed to be short-term, modular, and directly focused on skill acquisition. At the end of the program, students obtain certificates recognized in the business world, and their achievements are documented with digital badges. These badges will have a transparent, reliable, and trackable structure integrated into the digital system of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
MAKÜ, one of the pioneering universities in Turkey
Research shows that 74% of employers prefer candidates with micro competencies; skill-based recruitment on platforms like LinkedIn has increased by 63%. MAKÜ also takes its place among the pioneering universities in this field in Turkey. Our university prepares its students not only for graduation but also for versatile and flexible careers with innovative certificate programs developed in different fields.
